Opening Weekend for Railtown’s regular 2014 Steam Train Operating Season! Grand Opening festivities both days. This weekend only, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne County residents ride trains for free (proof of residency required). Arrive at 7 am and watch the crew prepare the train for the day in the historic roundhouse.

Chamber of Commerce Flea Market on the 1st Saturday of each Month from April through October at Mary Laveroni Community Park in Groveland, Highway 120, the North Gateway to Yosemite. Free admission for buyers. Gates open 8 am. Seller’s gates open 7 am, $10 for Chamber members $15 non-members, first come first served for space. Sell your Stuff and Find New Treasures, a family friendly and fun location with horseshoe pits, BBQs and picnic tables, skate park, next to the Museum & Library too!

Experience days long ago at the annual SmokePolers Spring Rendezvous black powder and mountain man reenactment at Camp Six-Bits in the historic Chinese Camp area. Events include: Rifle trail walk & metal animal silhouette targets. Pee Wees Hawk & knife trail walk.
They will be using sign- up sheets for all events, so be sure to get there and sign up early to compete. Camping is $10 for the weekend, with $5 extra per additional vehicles. Day visitors are free.

Saturday April 12th and Saturday April 19th ride the Wildflower Train Excursion! Special train departs at 4:30 p.m. from the depot. Prior to boarding the train, passengers will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with wildflowers of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Once aboard the train, naturalists will answer questions and point out flower groups along the way. Guests take away seeds to spread at home. Saturday April 12th and Saturday April 19th ride the Wildflower Train Excursion! Special train departs at 4:30 p.m. from the depot. Ed (along with Ed Beedy) are co-authors of the new UC Press book “Birds of the Sierra Nevada”. The book contains excellent discussions of each bird of the area, both biology and distribution, as well as excellent illustrations. Since retiring in 1999 Ed has devoted his life to birds, working on habitat conservation and avian research.
He plans to take those interested out to watch our local birds in the Park before the program at 8 am.

Columbia SHP presents A MERRY MYSTERY in the style of Wilkie Collins. Participants will be guided through the decorated town during the walking play as clues are provided to solve some mysterious events. The evening tour will end at the Bixel Brewery with refreshments for all. Reservations required. Tours leave every 15 minutes starting at 6:30 pm on Friday and 5:30 pm on Saturday. 31 years now running, this yearly tradition held at the historic City Hotel Restaurant, includes a five course meal, fine wines with each course, local & guest musicians and characters from the mid 1800’s time period including the play throughout the evening.
