With such traditional events as the 32nd Annual Poison Oak Show, the 32nd Annual Fiddle & Bango Contest, and the 48th Annual MI-Wuk Indian Acorn Festival scattered all throughout the month, also great new events such as the Exotic Bird and Animal Show, a tribute show to Elvis in Groveland, and the 1st Annual Twain Harte Golf Tournament. August 29th to September 21st 2014, Sierra Repertory Theatre presents “All my Sons.” This is play tells a powerful story of two families and a war-time catastrophe established Arthur Miller as a leading voice in the American theatre. The classic Tony Award-winning drama examines Miller’s familiar themes of fathers and sons, guilt, love and personal ethics. When a company’s defective airplane parts cause the deaths of many men in World War II, one partner went to prison and the other made a fortune. September 6th 2014, Sonora invites you to come on out to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds this September for the Exotic Bird and Animal Show presented by the Gold Country Avicultural Society.

September 12th to October 12th 2014, Stage3 presents “The Lion in the Winter” by James Goldman. It’s the year 1183. You are the greatest power in a thousand years and the family has gathered for the holidays… so pretty much the normal family reunion stuff – betrayal, intrigue, treachery, adultery and deception. September 12th, 2014, Ironstone Vineyards presents “The General” starring Buster Keaton for their Silent Movies, Railroad Night event. September 13th 2014, the Groveland Hotel presents Rob Ely, a Tribute to Elvis. Rob Ely performs two sets of Elvis Entertainment. The First is a review of where it all began with young Elvis Presley. September 20th, 2014 is the day to be in Groveland, California. Come out and celebrate the town’s biggest event of the year! 49er Festival, Parade and Chili Cook Off This annual festival starts with a pancake breakfast (7:00am to 9:00am) at Groveland Community Hall, and then hit the streets for the town parade at 9:00am on Main Street. And that is just how this little town begins this big day. With the Aviation Club fly over, chili cook-off, live auction, silent auction, a huge raffle, vendor booths, food & beverages galore, children games and activities, and so much more! September 26th and 27th 2014, Ironstone Vineyards presents Concours d’Elegance, an annual antique and classic car show that features over t300 vintage trailers, motorcycles, and wooden boats. September 26th through 28th 2014, come out for a weekend to Columbia State Historic Park and join in the Tuolumne Writers Retreat! A whole weekend filled with workshops, prose, poetry open mic sessions, a ghost walk, author greeting and book signing, cowboy poetry, Native American poetry, music, and dancing too! September 26th to October 26th 2014, Columbia Fallon House Theatre presents “Mark Twain’s “A Murder, A Mystery & A Marriage.” Heroes! Heroines! Villains! Great tunes, goofy jokes and red hot fiddlin’ – all spun from a Mark Twain yarn. The zany small town of Deer Lick, Missouri is thrown into frenzy when a mysterious visitor arrives. A young romance is tested and a town patriarch is murdered. Was it the local store clerk with a vendetta, or was it the suave Frenchman? Who will Mary marry?  September 27th 2014 is Free Admission to Yosemite National Park to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

September 27th 2014, Starting at 9 am on Main Street, Jamestown the Pioneer Days in Jamestown event will have family games, street vendors, “Guns of the Chosen Few’ western reenactment, and more throughout the day. There will be an anvil shot at high noon.

September 27th 2014, Columbia State Historic Park presents the 32nd Annual Poison Show. This itchy plant is made into flower arrangements, jewelry, works of art, and even a poison oak salad!! September 27th 2014, Columbia State Historic Park presents the 32nd Annual Fiddle and a Bango* Contest, which is an all-day contest where musicians compete for cash prizes in six categories: fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocal and miscellaneous, while spectators relax in lawn chairs. Registration for contestants is 9 to 10:30 am when competition begins and continues until about 4:30 pm, except for a lunch break featuring a Chili Cook-Off.

 *Bango was a misprint on the contest T-shirts back in 1983, and the name stuck!

September 27th to September 28th 2014, Tuolumne hosts the Memorial Hall Antique Fair. The huge open space and wood floors of Tuolumne Memorial Hall complement the antiques while the local park provides ample shaded parking. Saturday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm are free admission. Saturday at 8:00am is $5. This bi-annual antique fair has been very popular. 25 vendors are carefully chosen for antique, vintage and shabby chic.
